Literary icon and former Professor Chaudhry Mohammad Ali passed away on Friday, 14th August at his home in Rabwah. He was 98.
Ali was born in “Maseetan” a small village in the Firozpur district of Punjab in 1917.He did his M.A. from Government College Lahore and went on to teach at Punjab University where he was a member of the University Senate and Academic Council. He also taught at F.C. College Lahore and served as the President of the Philosophy department of the college.
He then went on to teach Philosophy at T.I College (Talim ul Islam College) in Qadian and Rabwah, He later became the principal of the college, While he was still a teacher at T.I College he helped kick start the college magazine “Al-Minar”.
Ali was also a prominent member of Ahmadiyya Muslim Community and in 1984 he started his teaching career once again as an English teacher at Jamia Ahmadiyya Rabwah (School of Islamic Theology).
He also had a keen interest in the promotion of sports and once served as the senior Vice President of Pakistan’s basketball team.During his time at T.I College he managed an array of sports which included swimming, rowing and hiking.
His Urdu poetry collection is published under the title “Askon kay Charagh”.
