A senior Islamic cleric & Imam of THE STATE HOUSE MOSQUE of Gambia Alhaji Abdoulie Fatty who called for the expulsion of Ahmadis and a complete ban on Ahmadiyya teaching in the country has been fired from his job as Imam of the State House.
Alhaji Abdoulie Fatty, in an interview to the private Standard Newspaper in Banjul called for the expulsion of Ahmadis from Gambia and said “Ahmadiyya’s are not Muslims,”
The Saudi Arabia educated cleric confirmed to a local newspaper that he received his dismissal letter on Tuesday.
” Yes I have been sacked as the Imam of the State House mosque. I was let go today. I accepted my removal in good faith. Things happen and I accepted God’s divine decision. I have done my part in leading the State Mosque. What God ordains; no one can stop it. I am ready to move on with my life,”
Reacting to the news of his firing, Imam Fatty claimed that his removal had nothing do with his anti Ahmadiyya sentiments. The Imam said: ” My sacking has nothing to do with my recent Standard interview. I stood by my statement that the Ahmadiyyas should be banned in this country.
Imam Fatty also denied that he was summoned for questioning by the NIA (Gambia’s National Intelligence Agency) prior to his firing. ” That’s false. I have never been summoned by the NIA. These are all rumors.
Responding to Imam Fatty’s statements Ahmadiyya Muslim Jammat Gambia issued a statement in The Standard Newspaper Gambia stating:
One of the most ridiculous statements Imam Abdoulie Fatty made was that the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at spreads fitna (disorder) in the world. Nothing could be further from the truth! The Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at is established in two hundred and six countries in the world and not a single instance can be cited here or abroad that the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at brought fitna anywhere.
In 1997 you called for Ahmadis to be taken to July 22 Squire to be slaughtered. We wonder whether a true Gambian will make such a statement. Now, who is the one bringing fitna?
