A pregnant Pakistani singer was shot dead while performing at a wedding in Southern Pakistan.
Samina Sindhu, a local folk singer was shot dead Tuesday night in a village near Larkana. According to reports, Tariq Jatoi shot Sindhu after she refused to dance during her performance.
“Samina declined to dance because she was pregnant,” her husband, Aashiq Ali, said. “Her refusal enraged the accused who killed her.”
Sidhu was taken to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival. The local Police initially refused to register a complaint and described the murder as an ‘accident’. According to Police Jatoi who was attending the wedding party was intoxicated at the time.
The suspecte has since been arrested. Sindh Home Minister Sohail Anwar Sial said he had taken notice of the incident last night and ordered the police to lodge a case against the suspected shooter.
The Station house officer (SHO) was suspended for declining register a complaint.
Javed Brohi, a spokesperson for Sindh Fankaar Welfare Trust, demanded justice for the family.
“Artists who spread happiness among the people are getting dead bodies in return,” he said.
