TORONTO – A York University Muslim student group is launching a campaign to end misconceptions about Islam.
The Ahmadiyya Muslim Students’ Association (AMSA) is hosting an event called Stop the CrISIS to educate about youth radicalization and the dangerous impacts of extremist views.
“We are bringing a unique perspective to everything. Our speaker will be a Canadian Muslim convert, but condemning ISIS, not supporting them,” Jari Qudrat, president of AMSA, said Thursday.
“As a student club on campus, we are keeping ourselves educated about current affairs. The AMSA student group wholeheartedly condemns the killings by both Martin Rouleau, 25-year old radicalized Muslim in Quebec, and Michael Zehaf-Bibeau, the 32-year-old Muslim convert in Ottawa.”
Qudrat says the event will focus on the “pure and pristine” teachings of Islam, which radicalized youths aren’t following.
“Just this year, York University student Mohamud Mohamed was killed abroad fighting with ISIS. We’d like to end it at that, and ensure that no more Canadian youth have any thoughts of radicalization from this day onwards,” Qudrat said.
The event will be held on Nov. 13 at 6 p.m. at Vari Hall-A, 198 York Blvd. on the York University campus.
May Allah, the exalted bless these humble efforts and my best wishes and congratulations to AMSA. Islam is for peace and Islam is for loyalty.
